Directory Terms & Privacy
1. Scope
This page governs the RetroMarket Directory — a separate, business-facing directory of retro gaming and vintage computing shops, repair services, user groups, and communities. It is distinct from the RetroMarket peer-to-peer marketplace covered by our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Where the Directory overlaps with the marketplace (for example, a shared account), those documents continue to apply alongside this page.
2. Directory data we collect
A directory listing is created and maintained by the business itself (or by RetroMarket on the business's behalf during initial seeding, from public first-party sources only). The data we collect for a listing is limited to:
- Business or organisation name.
- Published business contact details the business has chosen to make public — for example a business email, phone number, or website.
- Categories, systems, and brands the business services or serves (drawn from our fixed taxonomy).
- Location — city/region and, where provided, an address.
- The account email of whoever manages the listing, used only for listing administration (submission, edits, renewal, and removal correspondence).
We do not collect personal information about a business's customers, and we do not collect personal data about the business owner beyond the published business contact details above.
3. How we use directory data
Directory data is used to display the listing publicly for discovery and search — on directory browse/category/location pages and in search engine results — and to route inquiries to the business's published contact channel. It is not used for marketplace personalisation, and it is not sold to third parties. No personal customer data is collected by default; business-only-contact handling and consent for submission are detailed further as the submission flow ships.
4. Independently operated
Businesses listed here are independently operated. RetroMarket lists them but does not vet, endorse, or guarantee any business, its products, or its conduct. Any dealings are solely between you and the business. Use your own judgement.
There is no “Verified” or vetted tier in the Directory. Paid placement (Premium, Featured) affects visibility only — it never implies endorsement, vetting, or a guarantee of quality.
Businesses can also receive public reviews. Our Directory Review Policy explains the criteria for a review, why reviews are never removed for being negative, the business owner's right of reply, and how to report a review.
5. Removal and correction requests
Anyone — the business itself or a third party — may request that a Directory listing be removed or corrected. To protect against abuse, requests are verified by email control of the listing's published business contact before any change is made: we send a one-time verification link to that address, and the request only proceeds once it is confirmed from that inbox. Every removal or correction action is logged.
To start a request, use our removal or correction request form.
